The Grand Cherokee has been the cream of the crop in the Jeep line for years, and it continues to impress local drivers in 2021. However, when you shop at Johnson Dodge Chrysler Jeep, you may also notice that there is now a Grand Cherokee L available. Despite having a similar name, these are two unique models that are boldly different in important ways. After getting to know the Grand Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee L, which model will you select?
Under the Grand Cherokee’s hood, you will find a 3.6-liter V6 gas engine mated with an eight-speed auto transmission. The powertrain produces 293 horsepower, and it can tow up to 3,500 pounds. The same engine and transmission are found in the Grand Cherokee L. However, the Grand Cherokee L is a much larger, heavier vehicle, so it registers 290 horsepower. Notably, the Grand Cherokee L can tow up to 6,200 pounds. Both models have a rear-wheel drive drivetrain.
The Grand Cherokee L is more than 15 inches longer than the Grand Cherokee. It is also taller and more expansive. The difference in size enables the Grand Cherokee L to support the third row of seats inside the cabin. The Grand Cherokee L is visibly larger on the exterior with a more boxed-off look than its smaller sibling. Both models have squared-off wheel fenders, raised roof rails, LED lighting, and a power liftgate. However, there are style differences across the grille, headlights, fog lamps, and taillights.
The Grand Cherokee’s interior continues to be impressive with fine materials, a touch display screen, and various other thoughtful features. As an all-new model, the Grand Cherokee L has the latest design language offered by Jeep. It also has a 10.1-inch digital screen in the center stack, a 10.25-inch digital instrumentation cluster, new material options, and the power-folding functions that you expect from a modern vehicle with three rows of seating.
